Industry Credentials

Here is the final national report on Industry Credentials from the Certification Data Exchange Project.

In order to learn how industry certification impacts student education and workforce outcomes, the Certification Data Exchange Project has tested data-sharing processes between state education and workforce data systems and industry certifiers, created standardized tools and processes, and raised awareness about the importance of industry certification data.

This final report describes the project’s goals, shares results and discusses lessons learned and recommendations for future data-sharing and data-matching efforts, based around the following five-step process
1. Establish the data-sharing agreement
2. Estimate bandwidth and allocate resources
3. Facilitate the transfer of data
4. Perform the analysis
5. Present results using common templates

Former CDEP participants are planning to use the expertise acquired through this project to support the National Association of Manufacturers’ effort to develop an infrastructure for certification data sharing with the National Student Clearinghouse and U.S. Census Bureau.

Guided Pathways and the Promise

Last week the California Assembly passed AB-19 Community Colleges: California College Promise.

The bill language can be found here:

https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180AB19

You might be wondering how Guided Pathways is integrated with this bill.  Here is the language in AB-19 that connects Guided Pathways and the College Promise:

76396.2.

(d) Participating in the California Community College Guided Pathways Grant Program established pursuant to Part 54.81 (commencing with Section 88920) in order to clarify the academic path for students, help students enter a pathway, help students stay on an academic path, and ensure students are learning.

As we embark on this opportunity for our future students, we will be working on integrating the ideals of the College Promise and the Guided Pathways to help students not only get on a pathway, but have access to funding to support their focused educational goals.

Guided Pathways funding for 2018

“The governor’s revised budget provides a welcomed increased investment in our colleges to improve the success of our students and their social mobility in California,” Eloy Ortiz Oakley, the system's chancellor, said in a written statement. “It includes a $150 million commitment to help colleges build guided pathways that will integrate student support and instructional programs and lead more students to earn industry-recognized credentials and jobs that strengthen families and communities. Additional resources for the state chancellor’s office will provide improvements in data and research capacity, which will help us innovate, scale successful practices and hold our system accountable to the state and to our students.”
